In 1947, on a beach in Normandy, Madeleine, iswaitress in a hotel-restaurant trying to start a new life and struggling mother of a little boy conceived with a German officer during Vichy France. In this hotel she meets François, a rich student. Over time, it is discovered what François seeks to escape by intertwining Madeleine's fate with his own. A moving drama about the costs of living on the wrong side of the social and sexual conventions of post-war Europe and the pioneers of the sexual revolutions to come.
