A fortnight of powerful films invites you to confront social issues whilst being immersed in dreamy aesthetics from across the world.
Oscars’ Best International Film nominee Io Capitano is a highly emotional and heart felt film that follows two Senegalese teenagers who take on a journey from West Africa to the Mediterranean in pursuit of a better life. In our cinemas from 12 – 18 April.
Face capitalism head on in the dreamy fable The Delinquents, as Buenos Aires bank employee Moran thinks up a scheme to liberate himself from corporate monotony and delve into dystopian war-torn America by following four journalists who make their way through the warzone as rival forces close in, in Civil War.
Discover the life of the incredibly talented and extraordinary story of Amy Winehouse in biopic Back to Black and if you can’t make the theatre for the upcoming Welsh fantasia that is Nye, then you can enjoy the Welsh legend Michael Sheen on our big screen as Aneurin Bevan for NT Live’s broadcast here on 23 April & 7 May.
This weekend is our biennial four-day live-art festival Experimentica! Lou Lou Sainsbury presents two of her moving-image works followed by a discussion with Rebecca Jagoe and chaired by Claire Vaughan on Saturday 13 April, 5pm.
On Sunday Holly Slingsby screens her newly-created work, Holding Shards, alongside An Enclosed Garden, originally commissioned for Margate NOW in 2021. The screening is followed by a Q&A with Holly and Claire Vaughan. Both screenings and are captioned and have BSL interpretation for the discussions.
From Thursday 25-Sunday 28 April, Cardiff Animation Festival here hosting their 2024 festival! We’re thrilled to celebrate the best of animation with 96 short films, three major, animated feature films some of the world’s leading animation artists sharing their expertise and an opportunity to make your own film to be screened at the festival!

Sophie Mak-Schram and collaborators: To Shift a Stone
Across 2023 – 2025, artist Sophie Mak-Schram explored how power is experienced, shared, and challenged within Amgueddfa Cymru and Chapter. Working with activists, community workers, artists, and museum staff, Sophie developed collaborative ‘tools’ that challenge and reimagine power structures.

Eimear Walshe: [É]IRE
This billboard shows an aerial view of Bray Head, County Wicklow, Ireland. A gorse fire has revealed letters in the landscape spelling EIRE, with the first letter barely visible. EIRE is an anglicised misspelling of Éire, the Irish word for Ireland, and the official Irish language name for the country since 1937.
